5 Ways to Make Sure Your Jewelry Last a Long Time
So today I'm going to be sharing with you some of the best tips to make sure your jewelry last a long time. Depending on the type of jewelry you like to wear or it’s materials, You will have to care for your items differently. This is going to be a short and sweet guide so let’s jump right into it.
Tip #1
Wash your hands before putting on and taking off your jewelry everyday. Just like you wash your hands before you eat to make sure their not dirty. You should be washing your hands, because you simply don’t want to put dirt and/or grim on your lovely jewelry. Dirt on your jewelry over time can cause your jewelry to become dual or tarnish. Once you start to wash your hands everyday before taking off and putting on your jewelry it will become a great habit, I promise you.
Tip #2
Store your jewelry properly when you aren’t wearing it. Maybe one night your super tired, and you take your earrings off and pace them on the nightstand. I think we can all say we have done that before and it’s okay we always learn from our mistakes hopefully. The more time went on and the more research I done, I found out one of the biggest tips to make sure your jewelry last a long time, is to simply store it properly. Depending on the material of coarse. Gold is much more easier to store, you can place gold jewelry in a jewelry box. With silver jewelry it’s a little bit different not only do you want to place it in a jewelry box, it’s also best to place the jewelry in a small plastic jewelry bag separated from other jewelry. I’d like to share( we provide every shopper that purchases silver from our ship with these small bags). Another great thing about using a jewelry box and bag, it’s less likely for your jewelry to tarnish or get scratched up over time. I absolutely love silver jewelry, and with a little bit more care silver can defiantly last a long time.
Tip #3
Clean your jewelry every 6 months to a year. Just like clothes, every once in a while you should clean your jewelry. Depending on the material you will have to clean your jewelry differently. For gold jewelry a few light rubs with a microfiber cloth should do the trick, and I said cloth because you don’t want to use a towel it will scratch up your jewelry. Silver jewelry you will need to care for it a little more than gold. First if you feel like your silver jewelry looks clean, you can lightly rub it with a polish pad to give it shine again and to clean off dirt. Now if you have clean your silver jewelry, soak it in a water and vinegar mixture for a few hours. After a few hours take a cotton swab and wipe of all residue, then polish it with a polishing pad and it should be good as new. ( All customers receives a cleaning pad with their order depending on what jewelry they purchase). For more tips on how to care for your jewelry check out this blog post.
Tip #4
Anything involving water remove your jewelry, I can’t say this enough no matter what type of jewelry your wearing you should always take it off. Not only can water tarnish your jewelry, you run the risk of losing your items. It’s better safe than sorry, believe me I learned the hard way. What are some water activities to avoid wearing jewelry?… Everything. Swimming, excising, bathing, washing dishes, and etc. You should take off your jewelry and store it properly until you finish whatever your doing.
Tip #5
Avoid lotions and sprays what I mean by this is put your sprays and lotions on first, then let it dry. After that you can put your jewelry on. Same thing as water, lotions and sprays gets on your jewelry then eats through the coating which causes it to tarnish. So it’s best to remember to let your smell goods dry first before putting your jewelry.
